George Farquhar

George Farquhar (1677–1707) was an Irish dramatist known for his witty and satirical plays. He is best remembered for his comedies 'The Recruiting Officer' and 'The Beaux' Stratagem'. Farquhar's work is characterized by its humorous examination of social mores and its sharp commentary on the lives and relationships of the upper classes. Despite his short life, he made significant contributions to the Restoration comedy genre.
