Carlos de Siguenza y Gongora

Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora (1645–1700) was a notable Mexican scholar, philosopher, mathematician, historian, and writer of the colonial period in New Spain (present-day Mexico). He was a prominent figure of the Mexican Baroque intellectual movement and made significant contributions to a wide range of academic fields. His works include historical chronicles, scientific treatises, and literary compositions, reflecting the breadth of his knowledge and interests. Sigüenza y Góngora is often remembered for his defense of indigenous history and culture, as well as for his role as one of the first great intellectuals born in the Spanish Americas.
