Ben Hecht

Ben Hecht was an American screenwriter, director, producer, playwright, and novelist. Born on February 28, 1894, he became a prolific writer, often regarded as one of the greatest screenwriters in the history of American cinema. Hecht was known for his quick wit, sharp dialogue, and his ability to write across genres. He won an Academy Award for Best Original Story for 'Underworld' in 1927 and another for 'The Scoundrel' in 1935. Hecht's credits include films like 'Scarface' (1932), 'Twentieth Century' (1934), and 'Notorious' (1946). He was also a vocal advocate against the persecution of Jews during World War II and used his platform to raise awareness about the Holocaust. He passed away on April 18, 1964.
