Charles MacArthur

Charles MacArthur was an American playwright, screenwriter, and journalist. Born on November 5, 1895, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he is best known for his play 'The Front Page,' which he co-wrote with Ben Hecht. The play, a fast-paced comedy about newspaper reporters on the crime beat, has been adapted into several movies and remains a classic in American theatre. MacArthur was also married to the actress Helen Hayes, with whom he had a daughter, Mary, and a son, James MacArthur, who became an actor. Charles MacArthur's contributions to American literature and cinema have left a lasting legacy. He passed away on April 21, 1956.
