María Irene Fornés

María Irene Fornés was a prominent playwright and director, who was a leading figure in the off-off-Broadway movement in the 1960s. She wrote over 40 plays, won nine Obie Awards, and was known for her minimalist style and the poetic and complex nature of her work. Fornés was also a teacher and mentor to many young playwrights. Her notable works include 'Fefu and Her Friends' and 'The Conduct of Life'. She was influential in American theater until her passing in 2018.
