Ivana Brlic-Mazuranic

Ivana Brlic-Mazuranic was a renowned Croatian author, best known for her children's literature. Born on April 18, 1874, in Ogulin, she is often referred to as the Croatian Hans Christian Andersen. Her most famous works include the collection of fairy tales 'Croatian Tales of Long Ago' (1916), which has been translated into many languages and remains popular worldwide. Brlic-Mazuranic's stories are celebrated for their imagination, rich narrative, and deep moral themes. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times and is considered one of the greatest Croatian writers of all time.
