John W. DeForest

John William De Forest (1826–1906) was an American soldier and writer of the 19th century, known for his realistic narrative style and as a critic of the romanticism of his time. He is particularly famous for his novel 'Miss Ravenel's Conversion from Secession to Loyalty', one of the first realistic novels about the American Civil War.
