B.W. Vilakazi

Benedict Wallet Vilakazi was a South African poet, novelist, and intellectual. He was born on January 6, 1906, and died on October 26, 1947. Vilakazi was the first black South African to receive a Ph.D., and he wrote poetry in Zulu, as well as scholarly works on Zulu folklore, poetry, and proverbs. He is known for his contributions to the development of the Zulu literary tradition and for his influence on Zulu culture and education.
