Eugène Sue

Eugène Sue was a French novelist who was born on January 20, 1804, in Paris, and died on August 3, 1857. He is best known for his works in the genre of the serial novel, including 'Les Mystères de Paris' (The Mysteries of Paris) and 'Le Juif errant' (The Wandering Jew). His novels were among the first to highlight the lives of the urban poor and to touch on themes such as social injustice and the harsh realities of life in the 19th-century underclass. Sue's works were immensely popular during his lifetime and contributed to the development of the social novel in Europe.
