John Wilmot

John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester, was a notorious English poet and courtier of King Charles II's Restoration court. Born on April 1, 1647, he was known for his libertine lifestyle and his satirical and bawdy poetry. Wilmot's work varied from elegantly obscene to tenderly lyrical, reflecting both his wit and complexity as a writer.
