Jacques-Bénigne Bosuet

Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet was a French bishop and theologian, renowned for his sermons and other addresses. He was one of the most influential figures in French society during the 17th century and a leading advocate of the divine right of kings, which held that the monarchy was the legitimate ruling power ordained by God. Bossuet was also a tutor to the Dauphin, the heir to the French throne, and his works include 'Discourse on Universal History' (1681), 'Politics Drawn from the Very Words of Holy Scripture' (1709), and numerous orations and writings on religion and morality.
