Stefan George

Stefan George was a German poet, editor, and translator who played a significant role in the development of German literature at the turn of the 20th century. Born on July 12, 1868, in Büdesheim, now part of Bingen am Rhein, he was associated with the Symbolist and Aesthetic movements. His poetry is known for its formal innovation, linguistic precision, and aestheticism. George was also influential as a mentor to a circle of poets and intellectuals known as the 'George-Kreis.' He died on December 4, 1933, in Minusio, Switzerland.
