Beryl Gilroy

Beryl Gilroy was a notable British author, teacher, and ethno-psychotherapist. Born on August 30, 1924, in British Guiana (now Guyana), she moved to the UK in the 1950s. Gilroy was one of the first black headteachers in London and wrote extensively, with her work often exploring themes of racism, identity, and the immigrant experience. Her novels include 'Black Teacher' and 'Stedman and Joanna: A Love in Bondage', and she was also the grandmother of the British novelist and critic Bernardine Evaristo.
