Robert Desnos

Robert Desnos was a French surrealist poet who played a key role in the Surrealist movement of his time. Born on July 4, 1900, in Paris, he was known for his contributions to both poetry and the resistance during World War II. Desnos' work is characterized by its dreamlike imagery and free-form style, which often defied conventional logic and structure. He was deeply influenced by dreams and the unconscious, which is evident in his collections such as 'Liberté ou l'amour!' (1927) and 'The Night of Loveless Nights' (1929). Desnos was arrested by the Gestapo during the German occupation of France for his involvement in the French Resistance and died in the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1945.
