Christopher Colles

Christopher Colles (1739–1821) was an Irish-born American engineer and surveyor. He is best known for his early work in the development of infrastructure in the newly independent United States and for creating the first detailed road map of the country, the 'Survey of the Roads of the United States of America.' Colles was also involved in projects related to water distribution, navigation, and city planning. Despite his contributions, he faced financial difficulties throughout his life and did not gain widespread recognition during his time.
