Valmiki

Valmiki is an ancient Indian poet and sage, traditionally recognized as the author of the epic poem, the Ramayana, which narrates the life of Lord Rama. He is often referred to as the 'Adi Kavi,' meaning the first poet, in Sanskrit literature. The Ramayana consists of 24,000 verses in seven cantos (kandas) and tells the story of Rama's journey, his virtues as a ruler, the abduction of his wife Sita by the demon king Ravana, and her rescue. Valmiki's life and the exact period when he lived are subjects of much debate, but he is generally believed to have lived around the 5th century BCE.
