Cleanth Brooks

Cleanth Brooks (1906–1994) was an influential American literary critic and professor. He is best known for his contributions to New Criticism, a movement that emphasized close reading and the analysis of literary texts without considering external factors such as author biography or historical context. Brooks co-authored 'Understanding Poetry' and 'Understanding Fiction', both of which were seminal texts in the New Criticism movement.
