Abdelrahman Munif

Abdelrahman Munif was a Saudi Arabian novelist known for his works that delve into the social, political, and economic ramifications of the oil industry in the Arab world. He was born on May 29, 1933, in Amman, Jordan, to a Saudi father and an Iraqi mother. Munif's most famous work is the quintet 'Cities of Salt,' which is critical of the rapid changes in the Gulf society. Trained in law and oil economics, his writing was influenced by his expertise in these fields. Munif's citizenship was revoked by the Saudi government due to his political views, and he spent much of his life in exile. He passed away on January 24, 2004.
