Anne Applebaum

Anne Applebaum is an American journalist and historian known for her writings on communism and the development of civil society in Central and Eastern Europe. She has worked as a columnist and member of the editorial board for The Washington Post. Applebaum has also authored several books, including 'Gulag: A History,' which won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Non-Fiction, and 'Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe, 1944–1956.' Her work often focuses on the history and current affairs of the countries of the former Soviet Union and the challenges of transitioning to democracy.
