William Alexander Percy

William Alexander Percy was an American lawyer, planter, and poet from Mississippi. Born on May 14, 1885, in Greenville, Mississippi, he is best known for his memoir 'Lanterns on the Levee: Recollections of a Planter's Son' (1941). Percy served in World War I and later became a mentor to many young Southern writers, including his cousin Walker Percy. He died on January 21, 1942.
