Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator best known for the philosophy of education that bears her name, and her writing on scientific pedagogy. Her educational method is in use today in many public and private schools throughout the world. She was born on August 31, 1870, and passed away on May 6, 1952. Montessori was the first woman to graduate from the University of Rome La Sapienza Medical School, becoming one of the first female doctors in Italy. She was a proponent of children's rights and believed in a child-centered approach to education, emphasizing independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development.
