Marco Polo

Marco Polo was a Venetian merchant, explorer, and writer born in the Republic of Venice in 1254. He is best known for his travels through Asia, as well as his book 'Il Milione,' also known as 'The Travels of Marco Polo.' The book chronicles his journey along the Silk Road to China where he became a confidant of Kublai Khan, the Mongol ruler of the Yuan dynasty. His detailed account of his experiences introduced Europeans to Central Asia and China and inspired future explorers.
