Douglas Mawson

Sir Douglas Mawson was an Australian geologist, Antarctic explorer, and academic. He was a key expedition leader during the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration and is best known for his Antarctic expeditions, including the Australasian Antarctic Expedition of 1911-14. Mawson was knighted for his achievements in exploration and research, and he also contributed significantly to the scientific understanding of the Antarctic region.
