Valerian Albanov

Valerian Albanov was a Russian navigator and author, best known for his survival narrative 'In the Land of White Death,' which recounts his harrowing journey after being stranded on the Arctic ice during the Brusilov Expedition of 1912. Albanov was one of the two survivors of the expedition, and his account provides a remarkable tale of endurance and navigation through the Arctic, using a sextant and the stars, after the expedition's ship, the Saint Anna, became icebound.
