Lionel Terray

Lionel Terray (1921–1965) was a prominent French alpinist and mountain guide. He is known for his significant contributions to mountaineering during the mid-20th century, including his ascents of major peaks in the Alps, Andes, and Himalayas. Terray was also a member of the successful 1950 French Annapurna expedition, which was the first to reach the summit of an 8,000-meter peak. His autobiography, 'Conquistadors of the Useless,' is regarded as a classic in mountaineering literature.
