Wu Cheng'en

Wu Cheng'en was a Chinese novelist and poet during the Ming Dynasty, best known for being the author of 'Journey to the West', one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. The novel is a mythological fantasy based on the real travels of a Buddhist monk, Xuanzang, to India in the 7th century and includes the famous characters Monkey King (Sun Wukong), Pigsy (Zhu Bajie), and Sandy (Sha Wujing). Wu's life details are not well-documented, but he is believed to have been born in the Jiangsu province around 1500 and to have died around 1582.
