Sterling Allen Brown

Sterling Allen Brown was an African American poet, professor, folklorist, and literary critic. Born on May 1, 1901, in Washington, D.C., he was influential in the Harlem Renaissance and dedicated much of his work to the study and appreciation of black culture and folklore. He is known for his collections of poetry, including 'Southern Road' (1932), and for his work in African American literature and criticism. Brown passed away on January 13, 1989.
