Amadou Hampâté Bâ

Amadou Hampâté Bâ (1901–1991) was a Malian writer and ethnologist. He is well-known for his efforts to preserve the oral traditions of West Africa, particularly those of his native Mali. His most famous quote, 'In Africa, when an old man dies, a library burns down,' reflects his commitment to recording the stories and histories of his culture. Bâ's works include 'L'étrange destin de Wangrin' (The Fortunes of Wangrin) and a collection of African folktales and proverbs. He was also a respected scholar in the field of African oral tradition and history.
