Dian Fossey

Dian Fossey was an American primatologist and conservationist known for her extensive study of mountain gorillas in Rwanda. She spent nearly two decades studying the gorillas and advocated fiercely for their conservation, opposing poaching and tourism in wildlife habitats. Fossey's work gained international acclaim, but also made her the target of backlash from poachers. She was tragically murdered in 1985 in a case that remains unsolved. Her life and work were portrayed in the book and film 'Gorillas in the Mist.'
